CAMP SHOSHANAH PHOTOS - 1989

This page contains photos of the Camp Shoshanah Messianic Bible Study Camp taken during 1989. While the main purpose of Camp is the study of the Scriptures from a Jewish frame of reference, we always manage to have a lot of Kosher fun, and these photos mainly show the fun!

The main Camp Shoshanah building 1989. This was our Dining Hall, our Bible Lecture Hall and the Recreation room. It had been added onto
at either end in 1984 to double the space. Books were cleared away after class to turn it into a Dining Hall. The main toilet & shower
facility is at left, the Boys entrance is seen. No air conditioning, no internet, no cell phones and one single landline phone. We loved it.

Messianic Rabbi Milton Maimon was, along with his wife Lura, the founder of an outreach ministry and Messianic Jewish Congregation
in Harrisburg, PA. He set up the first sound system at Camp Shoshanah and recorded Arnold's classes which became the first cassette
tapes offered by Ariel Ministries. He is seen here at the Camp Shabbat service. He is fondly remembered by all he ministered to.

Leading praise for the Erev Shabbat service in the main building, which was both the main lecture AND dining hall.

Dr. Barry Leventhal taught classes every year during the 1980's

In the evening after classes, the books were cleared away and board games and Israeli Folk Dancing occupied all.

-

Dorothy Starks was A key person who came to Camp her first year as a Bible student, saw the chaos that we called a Kitchen, and along with her husband Carl, volunteered to organize and staff a proper kitchen. She drafted her entire family to join her, and served in that position for over 20 years. Our NEW Dining hall, finished in 2013, is named the - DOROTHEA & CARL STARKS DINING HALL.

In the early years of Camp a small crew of volunteers stayed behind for a few days after Camp closed, we cleaned the cabins and
dining hall. A tradition developed that Arnold would prepare & cook breakfast for that crew on the Sunday after most had left.
On the menu, a favorite of our Brooklyn Jewish community: cut-up Hebrew National Salami (seen in the photo at top left),
onions and eggs, scrambled, served with bagels & left over Shabbos Challah. Geshmacht !!
Here he is assisted by Mrs. Deborah Baleston, who served as the camp Assistant Chef for seven years during the 1980's.
